We held our annual Black & White Ball on Saturday 6th August at Newtown Jets in Tempe. The theme this year was rockabilly and the girls took it and ran. There were some serious gorgeous girls and some very spunky butches – great hair and wonderful outfits.
Rusty Gates was MC for the night and there was some amazing talent. Sandi Hotrod was dj’ing for us so of course the music was always going to be foot tapping and booty shaking. Sovryn Buckles and Victor O’Toole were our drag kings but the highlight was the singers throughout the night.
Sheryl Scharkie the girls was our first entertainer and she had everyone in the plam of her hand. This was early Elvis in our midst. This the perfect way to start our rockabilly evening. Rose and Tony were next. This was a bit softer with a little bit of country. Tony was a amzing on guitar and Rose has a lovely voice. Our third act was Mon and Sue. These girls did some more modern numbers and were a great contrast. Our last singer for the night was Prada Clutch. This was the second year that Prada has graced us with her presence. She was going to do four numbers but the girls kept begging for more so four became seven and then nine. She promised us a repeat performance next year before she was allowed to leave.
We finished up the next with Ginger Snap for desert. This was a saucy seductive fan dance that had all the girls whooping and hollering. A little bit of burlesque was the perfect way to end the entertainment.
We also had the traditional best dressed femme, butch and couple. Bex and Jakk were our judges and they had a very difficult task. There were lots of gorgeous femmes for Jakk to choose from and plenty of studly butches for Bex. In the end they chose Stella as Best Femme and ?? as Best Butch. Imagine their surprise when the two of them indulged in a huge snog on stage – the judges had chosen a couple without knowing it. If it was hard to choose a winning Femme and Butch it was nearly impossible to choose best couple. In the end ???? were the winners but because they were so close two runner up prizes were given.
