Dykes on Bikes – but what can I do?

I’ve seen billboards recently that say Smart Critiques, Stupid Creates. A strong community needs people who are willing to create. It’s true not everyone will like what you do but the fact you did it is important.

It’s easy to sit back and be negative but much harder to take the chance and be creative. And when you pull it off the sense of satisfaction you get is hard to match.

A huge amount of work goes into organising DOB for the Mardi Gras parade every year but when you see the bikes and everyone smiling, it all becomes worthwhile.

Next month we will send out nomination forms for the new committee. The positions range from public roles like president to administration positions like secretary or treasurer to ride leaders who are there to share their knowledge.

Now is the time to start thinking about what you can do. To paraphrase JFK, ask not what your club can do for you but what you can do for your club. Even if you cannot commit to the whole year, there are always volunteers needed for events and to assist the committee during the year.

An easy way you can support the club is to be an active member. Attend events and rides throughout the year. A healthy club needs active members to keep it thriving.

Speaking of which, thank you to everyone who came along to our second Trivia Night. We raised more than $2500 for our charities — a seriously awesome effort.

Also, thanks to Jenny, our ride leader for the recent Canberra trip. We had members travelling down from Newcastle to join us as well as some who actually came up from Canberra and Wagga to meet us. Although the weather was cold, there is something warming about spending time with a wonderful group of bike/like-minded women.

Feel like joining in? We have two-day rides coming up in June and then another two in July. Keep in contact with us through Facebook or at www.dykesonbikessydney.org.au or email me at [email protected]

Until we see you next, ride safe and sexy.
