Spring Newsletter & President’s Report

Spring Newsletter Nov 2019

Included in the Spring Newsletter is our November President’s Report

We loved ms Lola Sola’s tunes as we enjoyed watching the new DOB Mural being painted. Some members asked where they could find Lola’s Music? There are ac couple of places – if you would like to buy her tracks, the Lola Sola – Bandcamp page would be the best place, as all the funds do directly to the musician.

Come celebrate X-mas!
December 15th, 2019 from 2 pm
Come down to the Lady Hampshire Hotel (Camperdown) for a nip of Xmas Spirit with Dykes on Bikes.

Santa and her evil elf will be dropping in to hand out presents and punishments to the naughty children.

There will also be some fun Christmas games where the winning team can be assured of everlasting glory and some free drinks. Always good for a giggle!

Between 2 pm-4 pm, we will also be taking DOB 2020 Membership Renewals (& applications for any newbies that want to sign up for the first time- always best to do this person). $50 (cash or credit card accepted).

It also means you will be one of the first in for your choice of ride colour group in the 2020 Mardi Gras Parade.

RSPCA xmas ride 2018

RSPCA xmas ride 2018

Each year we ride out to the RSPCA shelter in Yagoona and deliver donations for their community outreach programmes.  Apart from making us feel all warm and fuzzy we also get to play with the puppies and kittens, and maybe find a furever friend.

This year we delivered a bumper crop.  Big thanks to all who donated.

Dykes on Bikes 2019 Mardi Gras After Party

Dykes on Bikes 2019 Mardi Gras After Party

We will be holding another Mardi Gras after party at The (Lady) Hampshire Hotel again.  There will be dancing, entertainment and just a great cruisy night with fantastic people.

We’re taking over the whole pub and inviting the entire LGBTQI+ community to come party with us.

Whether you ride with Dykes on Bikes and just want to spend the night partying with some fantastic people you are welcome to join us.

Tickets are available through Sticky Tickets

Black & White Ball 2018

We returned to the Red Rattler in Marrickville for this years Black & White Ball.  The theme this year was The Roaring Twenties and plenty of people made the effort to dress appropriately.  The Best Dressed competitions were highly contested.

After the success of the Mardi Gras After Party we flew DJ JoSH back over from Adelaide to make sure we had plenty of dancing music for the night.

As a special surprise Drag Icon, Sexy Galexy, Came up from Melbourne to perform and MC the night for us.  To round out our drag entertainment the super smooth Jayvante Swing did a few numbers and even Rusty Gates got into the spirit with a little number.

The night raised nearly $1,000 for our charities.

2018 Highlights

2018 has been a great year for us.  Of course, it is brilliant that we reached our 30th Birthday but we also had an amazing turnout for the Mardi Gras Parade, one of the best Mardi Gras After Parties I’ve been to in years and a fantastic night at the Black & White Ball.

We have the RSPCA and X-Mas Party coming up in December and then the return of the Big Dykey Picnic in January.  February will be full of things leading up to Mardi Gras and, of course, part II of the DOB After Party at the (Lady) Hampshire.  The Bike & Tattoo Show has morphed into the Bike & Body Show to be held on Saturday 30th March.  We have gone into partnership with ACON’s Women’s Health Project (hence the Body) so apart from the Bike Competition and a Swap Meet we will be looking at looking after not only your bike but your Body.

There are rides scheduled for every month – some long and some short – to make sure you have a reason to get out on your bike.

Yes we know it’s the start of Winter for the weekend away but if it goes as planned you will not want to miss this one.  (Details to be confirmed but Head Like a Chicken)

Or if you aren’t riding or just want to catch up, why not come along to one of our social events and meet the crew. More details are always posted on Facebook here.
